Hello everyone

Hola familia,
how is everyone doing this week? I hope that you are all doing great. This week wasn´t as busy as the last couple but it was a good week. We had a baptism on Saturday and it was really good. Her name is Susana Mendez. She is about 50 years old and it was a good baptismal service, it was kind of funny because her grandson baptized her and he just barely was ordained a priest and he is a little skinny guy and Susana is a bigger lady. He couldn´t get her to go all the way under the water. It wan´t his fault because she wouldn´t let herself fall she would go stiff and then he couldn´t get her to go under the water. So he tried like 4 times and finally they had her just like squat down and put her head between her legs. It was pretty funny i hadn´t ever seen a baptism like that but it works. The work is starting to pick up now it was a little rough the first couple of weeks. Paysandú is a great area and it has a lot of potential we are just trying to change it right now and it is looking really good. The missionaries are working hard and they are having some good success. Our goal for this month is 22 baptisms and we have the people to reach the goal we just have to give them all baptismal date an keep working hard. We have our sector conference this Friday. I am really excited because the President is doing them a little different, he is only doing 2 zones at a time and before we would do 3 to 4 zone all together. so it should be a little more personal and more interaction with all the missionaries. We have the sector conference once a change, also we have interviews and ZLC once a change. So after this week we don´t have any more big meeting until next change. Every Tuesday we have a district meeting with all the missionaries here in p-. So we get to see all the missionaries at least once a week. Next week we are going to go to Argentina and do divisions with the elders over there.
We have 4 elders in Argentina and president wants us to go help them out a little bit. So they gave us our passports and we are going to go visit them. The weather is already starting to warm up it is just sweater weather now. For like two weeks i had to wear my thermal g´s but i think that i won´t have to wear them again this winter. With the whole camera thing how much would it cost to send it down here fed ex because i could buy one here if it would be cheaper. My camera is a sony 8.1 megapixel i will get you the exact product number next week. I love you all i hope that you are going to have a great time at lake powell. Next year i will be there. Did dad pull out of the water the first time? If he didn´t he better practice because i am going to do it the first time. i love you all have a great week and a safe trip.

p.s. tell grandpa kirk i love him and that he has to make it at least 10 more months

Hello another crazy week in Uruguay‏

Hola a todos,

¿Cómo están? I hope that everyone is doing great. I am glad to hear that Jodi’s surgery went fine and that she doesn’t have a blood clot in her lungs that was a bit scary. This week was just about as crazy as the last one but it went by really fast. We had our interviews with President Peterson on Wednesday and they were great. As a ZL you get to have a longer interview with the Pres so it was great. They took a long time because we had to stay there the whole time we couldn’t leave early and go out to work. But afterwards we went out with the APs and got some ice cream so it was worth it. Then on Friday we went down to Montevideo and had out ZLC (Zone Leader Counsel) it was really cool. We talked about the numbers of the mission and what we need to do different to double the baptisms. We are really close to doubling the baptisms since I got here. When I got here we were baptizing 75 or so a month and now we are getting really close to 150. The Hermana Peterson cooked lunch and it was the best lunch that I have had since I have been on the mission. It was so good. So that made this week go by really fast. We have a baptism coming up this weekend a lady named Susana Mendez. She finally is going to get baptized she has been ready for a couple weeks but this week a bunch of her relatives are coming to town so she wanted to get baptized this week. Everything is going great here in P- we have a great zone and they are working hard we are going to have a successful change here in p-dú. Well on a lower note I have some bad news. I broke my camera on accident. Last week we went to the beach and were playing volleyball and soccer and Elder Oswald and I were taking some good pics down by the river and my camera fell into the water. Luckily I didn’t loose any pictures or anything but the bad news is I need to buy a new one. So I was thinking that I could just buy one here but I think they are a little more expensive. I found another Sony like the one that I have right now it is a little newer but it is like 400 dollars. I don’t know what we will want to do you could take all the money I have in my account and put it into my checking so I could buy that one. Or there is an Elder that is going home in 3 months and his parents are coming to pick him up so you could send it with them. I don’t know what you will want to do but if you think of any ideas write them to me next week. For now I am going to put all the pictures that Elder Oswald takes on my thumb drive so no hurry. I love you all have a great week. I hope that everything goes great with Golf and Camp. Work hard and have fun I love you all.

Howdy a Todos

hello everyone,
How is everyone doing this week? This week has been one of the most hectic weeks of the mission so far. I got here to P- Tuesday night and I had Elder Oswald waiting for me, but two of the elders in our zone got robbed and lost their luggage, but luckily they only took the bags and not the clothes so we have been on the house hunt this last week and working with the offices of the mission and the people here to try to get them into a new house. It is so much fun being comps with Elder Oswald we are having so much fun, we get along great it is like we are brothers. But some of the responsibilities that we have as ZLs is take numbers, direct the district meetings, get the bolsa, do divisions with other elders, go to ZLC (zone leader conference) and he the best example for the rest of the missionaries. Paysandú is a lot bigger than bella union and we live in a sick house. We live with 4 other elders for now until we get the other elders into their new house. But you don´t need to worry about me living in bad conditions for at least 3 months. The area is really tranquilo and the people are great. There is a lot of work to do here. The ward is quite small there were only 30-40 people at church i wouldn´t be surprised if they actually combined a couple of the wards to make a real ward that qualifies to be a ward.that sucks that you about cut your finger off mom. be careful. i bet you are going to have a lot of fun up at camp with all the girls of the stake. How is our ward doing? i haven´t heard anything lately about the wars. there are a lot of places that i could buy clothes here in p- but yes i bought a pair the other day in salto, so for right now you don´t have to worry about it. Thanks for all the love and support that you all give me i appreciate it a lot. i hope that everyone is doing great and they are working hard. que tengan una buena semana y que disfruten el sol porque hace mucho frio acá. les amo mucho hasta la semana que viene

Changes

Hola a todos,
How is everyone doing? This week just like everyweek went by extrimely fast. I did divisions with the zone leaders in salto and the any week that you have divisions goes by really fast. Well we got changes today and i am leaving Bella Union. Elder Arnett is staying with a another really young Elder. But you are all going to freak when i tell you what is happening with me……….I am going to be a Zone Leader in Paysandú with Elder Oswald. It is going to be so much fun. I never thought that we would be comps but it is going to happen. I found out today and when i heard what was going to happen i thought they were lying to me but it is for real. I can´t wait to be his comp, we are going to have so much fun leading the troops in p-. I have loved the time that i have spent here in Bella Union. I am going to miss the area, the members, and our investigators. we have this investigator that we just gave a baptismal date the other day that was a pretty cool story. We have been teaching him for like a month and a half or more and he was progressing great, he would go to church every week and was keeping all the commitments but he wanted to know everything about the church before he got baptized. So we had taught him almost all the lessons except tithing and he still said that he wanted to know a lot more. So we went to visit him and taught him tithing and after we got done we told him that we had taught him all the things he needed to know to get baptized and he said he would pray about it. Well he is getting baptized on Saturday but that is great for Elder Arnett and his new comp get them started off on the right foot.I am kind of bummed that i won´t be with Elder Arnett for another change but they say in the mission that if you are with your son for two changes it is because he didn´t learn everything that he needed to. So i guess he learned everything. He is a great Elder and is going to be a future leader here in the mission. That is so funny that Ali and Taylor hiked Mt. Olympus . Elyse and i are going to hike it and beat there time. Because you all know how i am everything is a competition. I love you all thanks for all the support and everything that you do for me. Work hard and keep having fun. I love you all until next week.

Whats up Everyone- July 13th 2009

Hello everyone,
How is everyone doing this week? This week went by really fast it seems like i got done writing you last week. A lot has happened since the last week when i wrote. First of all we had a baptism last Saturday. Alarico Larrosa got baptized it was a cool story he is 84 years old. It was funny because we started to talk about baptism and he said that he was going to wait until summer to get baptized because he thought that we were going to do the baptism in the river Uruguay. He didn´t know that we did the baptisms in the church. Missionaries had talked to him over 3 years ago and they left him a Libro de Mormón but he never progressed and they stopped visiting him. We found him like a month and a half ago and he said that he had read the Book of Mormon 2 times all the way through. He went to church 3 times and was baptized last Saturday. Really it was a huge miracle for my comp and i we have worked really hard and we are just starting to see the fruits of our work. It is getting really cold up in Bella Union and i still haven´t used the scarf. The weather is really cold in the mornings but it heats up by mid-day and then it feels really good. We went and did service with one of the families in the area and we cut wood. I got the biggest blister on my hand from cutting wood with an ax. It was really fun to do it but we paid the price afterwards. Our investigators are progressing great the area is in a lot better shape now than when i got here almost tow changes ago. Next week we have changes again and i think that i will be going but i will tell you next week so i might e-mail on Tuesday next week but write me like you normally do cause i probably will still do e-mail on Monday.Hey Mom a couple people in the ward have asked for a recipe for corn bread could you send me your recipe? I love you all thanks so much for the e-mails i´m glad that you got to take the boat out for the first time. Dad did you pull out of the water the first time? If not you better practice you have got a summer to get it perfected. Work hard and have fun i love you all have a great week. Que pasen bien.

Chao Elder Tate

p.s. My pants are dropping like flies, i´m going to buy a couple here in Salto today could you put some money in my account. Thanks. I think they are like 40$ each.
